Growing up I didn’t like football. I don’t play it, and I didn’t use to watch it on tv. Since the world cup has started I watched some games and I was impressed on how nice can a game be if it’s played by great teams with a lot of history behind.
I began to understand why it is so appreciated in some countries (considered a real religion in some states) and why people pay a load of money to watch it live, on a stadium. Now I understand why I didn’t like to watch football. Because in Romania is just a game. No team has reached the point of spectacle. All they to is score and try to win the games. From what I saw in the World Cup games, international teams with superstars don’t just win the game, they make it a real treat, a pleasure to watch and cheer. So I agree, it’s a nice show to watch with your friends.
But, I still think football doesn’t deserve the public money it gets. Looking at Romania, why do other sports have to suffer only because football get’s the most advertising. Gymnastics brought in this country more prizes than any other sport. Swimming keeps it’s good image at the Olympic games, and tennis is more and more of a success for Romanian players. Why don’t we give them money instead of wasting them on Romanian football, which, to be honest, is and is not going to be that good. Let’s invest in something we are good at!
